You can use DNA to solve crimes. Because everyones DNA is unique, and had different sequences, you can identify people using DNA left behind at crime scenes. You could discover DNA in blood, saliva, and even fingerprints.
The FBI uses DNA testing to solve crimes. They also have a system to keep track of everyone's DNA so they can compare the crime DNA to a specific persons DNA. The FBI states that "A forensic laboratory receives evidence in a criminal investigation and is asked to perform DNA testing on that evidence. The evidence may be part of a rape case or a homicide. Or maybe there is a murder weapon that contains DNA. The DNA profile obtained from the crime scene evidence is called a forensic unknown. The laboratory doesn’t know whose profile it is, but they know it is associated with the crime. The laboratory enters that profile into CODIS(Combined DNA Index System). "
Graph shows that using DNA to identify arrest and prosecute people is more effective and useful compared to traditional methods
DNA has been used to solve countless numbers of crimes. One of the first ones being Marvin Lamount Anderson's life sentence. "Anderson had been in jail for fifteen years, almost all of his adult life after being accused of a brutal rape of a young woman in 1982." While anderson was in jail he "continued to protest his innocence and requested that DNA analysis be done to the physical evidence." The Innocence Project stated that "in the years after anderson's conviction, DNA testing became widely available." So, using the evidence presented at the crime scene was easy, and possible. After multiple court dates, Anderson was found innocent. If we DNA had not been discovered, innocent people would be in jail, and guilty people could be walking the streets.
Using DNA testing could easily convict you of a crime, and put you in jail because of it's accuracy
